Q. - How long does a forklift truck certificate last for?

A. - HSE recommends 'Refresher Training' takes place every 3 to 5 years

Q. - What do I need to pass to gain my forklift truck certificate?

A. - There are three elements you must pass:
1 - A pre-operational check on the machine to ensure it is safe to use.
2 - There is a theory test which consists of 25 multiple and selection choice questions.
3 - A practical operating test which includes manoeuvring, stacking and de-stacking, normally within a racking system or other stacking applications such as bulk stalking.

Q. - What is the required minimum age to operate a forklift truck?

A. - You must be over the minimum school leaving age. If you are working in a port, it's 18. Also check your company policy.

Q. - Do I need a car driving licence to operate a forklift truck?

A. - No. But you will do if you plan to drive the forklift truck on the public highway

Q. - Do I have to complete training to operate a powered pallet truck (PPT)?

A. - Yes - training is required on all workplace machinery/equipment including PPT's
